Gift Back Spirit Week

December 18th, 2011

The week of Monday 5th through Sunday 10th marked the residential hall’s Give Back Spirit Week.  Members of the A-team sold candy cane grams, as well as Respect, Responsiblity, and Honor wrist-bands in order to raise money for the Toys for Tots charity this Christmas and also sponsored Royalty contestant activities.  The week started off with the announcement of candidates running for the RRH Snow Dance King & Queen Royalty.  Travis Preston, Jarvis Dougi, and Channon Yazzie ran for King and Heavenleigh Douglas, Mele Etsitty, Serdia Slim, and Lorita Burns ran for Queen.  Through the week contestants competed in a series of mini contests:  Tuesday–Pie Eating Contest; Wednesday–dorm trivia competition; Thursday–Wii Just Dance Competitiion; and Friday—pageant.   Overal winners:  Snow King Travis Preston & Snow Queen Heavenleigh Douglas; runners up Jarvis Dougi & Serida Slim.  Together with Fundraising efforts by the Senior Class and proceeds collected throughout the week, over $300 will go to the Toys for Tots charity.

Two times a month the students meet for Student Family Group (SFG).  For SFG students are divided by grade and each staff member in the homeliving department and kitchen are assigned to a group.  For this weeks get together, the students sang Christmas songs.  This is always a fun event and it gets everyone in the Christmas spirit!

Sterling Scholar’s Dinner

Tuesday, December 6th, Mele Etsitty and Sylvia Nielson, Academic Director, attended the South Sevier High School Sterling Scholars dinner at the Monroe Community Center.  Mr. & Mrs. Nilsson, Sterling Scholars Advisors, met with the students and parents to explain what commitments are ahead for the scholars and they also displayed past portfolios.  Mele Esitty is representing the school in the field of Science.

  

 

 

 

 



Honor Roll Activity

December 15th, 2011

Students who received a 3.0 grade point average and higher were taken out to Pizza Hut for some delicious pan pizza!  They also received 4 to 8 ”Free Passes” that gives them an excused absence from study hall.

The junior class participated in a mock disaster  by being victims of the disaster, so the Emergency Rescue Services volunteers could practice their skills.  Residential Hall sponsors who helped plan the service project were:  Marlene Stewart, Tina Bigman, and Jason Taylor.

        

 



Cinderella

Cinderella’s stepmother and stepsisters!

Mele Etsitty starred in South Sevier High School’s play “Cinderella”.  She practiced for weeks learning her lines as the wicked Stepmother!  “I was amazed at how well she played the part, she was fantastic!”  said, Sylvia Nielson, RRH Staff.  Mele has been involved with the drama club for the past 4 years and has had parts in “My Fair Lady”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, and “the Sound of Music”.  She is the daughter of Bobby & Daphne Etsitty, St. Michaels.

 



Senior Fundraiser

November 20th, 2011

The Senior class held a Navajo Taco Sale fundraiser at Richfield’s Holiday Craft Boutique.  Vendors and customers from all over the county were at the fair grounds this last Friday and Saturday where our students were featured as the main food servers.   Portions of the proceeds made will go to Toys for Tots this Christmas.  Senior sponsors:  Bea Quitco, Racheal Miles, & Jaime Romero
