Campus Pride

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Richfield Residential Hall has the cleanest campus and dormitory you will find anywhere. Earlier this month, the students and staff worked together in our annual Campus Cleanup Activity. The campus was divided into sections, and each class was responsible for cleaning up their section. Our students and staff show a lot of pride in our campus, and it shows!

March Students of the Month

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Congratulations to March’s Students of the Month! Students are nominated for this honor by RRH staff, who then vote to determine the winner. Congratulations on all of your hard work Deidra and Shaun, you are doing great things with the opportunities here at RRH!

Deidra Greymountain is a junior at South Sevier High School, and this is her second year at RRH. She plans on attending college to become a nurse. She says she is thinking about this career field because she likes helping little kids and other people. Deidra is an Honor Roll student, and her great attitude and willingness to help others is what really makes her stick out as Student of the Month. Deidra is the daughter of Bruce Greymountain and Janet Betoney of Tonalea, AZ.

Shaun is a charismatic young man who is always willing to help others, and his great sense of humor brings many smiles to the students and staff of RRH. Shaun says that he is still trying to decide what his interests are, but he definitely plans on attending college. Though he is still not sure what he wants to do after high school, he says he is currently considering engineering. Shaun says that he enjoys most things about RRH, and we are all glad that he made the choice to join our family here! Shaun is the son of Sherri Bradley and Dennis Poorman of Kayenta, AZ.

Students Model For Art Show

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

melissa-lee-sketch.jpgThis week marks the 26th Annual Sevier County Commissioners Art Show. If you are in the Richfield area, stop by and see some amazing artwork in multiple categories. Today Travis Begaye, Melissa Lee, and Leon Jackson had the opportunity to model for local artist Katie Rollins. The students said it was a neat experience and that it only took Ms. Rollins about 10 minutes to complete the sketches. Now, that is amazing! travis-begaye-sketch.jpgNote: We were unable to scan the entire picture of Leon… just visualize him on a sweet skateboard. Thanks again, Ms. Rollins, for making this a special day for some of our students.leon-jackson-skating.jpg

The Will To Win

Friday, April 13th, 2007

natasha-s-softball-005.jpgUnder the leadership of coach Dave Clark, the Richfield High School girl’s softball team is having a great season this year. Each week, Coach Clark awards one player with a special “will to win” t-shirt. This week, the “Will-To-Win” award was given to Natasha Sloan for her great attitude and hard work in practice and games. She is a team player, and has contributed greatly to the success and morale of the team. Natasha is a sophomore from Tuba City, Arizona, and is the daughter of Michelle Adson. This is Natasha’s first year making the RHS Softball team, and we are all proud of her hard work and dedication to the team.

Wise Council From A Great Chief

Friday, April 13th, 2007

chief-manuelito.jpgThe Navajos have a long history of dedication to education for their people. A few days before his death in 1893, the great chief, Hastinn Ch’il Haajiin (Manuelito) said, “My grandchild, education is the ladder. Tell our people to take it.” For the past five decades, the Navajos have allocated a relatively large proportion of their efforts and resources to improving educational opportunities for their tribal members. – from Dine College Website (https://www.dinecollege.edu/ics/About%20DC)
Richfield Residential Hall is the best option for college-bound high school students. If you are serious about your education and choosing your own path in life, RRH is YOUR “ladder!”  Take the first step to your future by completing an application for admission today!

“BIGMAN” ON CAMPUS IS A GIRL!

Monday, April 9th, 2007

img_0589.jpgEach week the Richfield High School Booster Club sponsors a Student of the Week. This student is selected by votes from the faculty of the high school. Out of over 600 students that attend Richfield High School, our very own Dawn Bigman, has been selected as this week’s Student of the Week at Richfield High School! Dawn is a sophomore and she enjoys running, working out, and being outdoors. After high school, she says that she plans on attending college or a technical school, and she would like to be an underwater welder. Dawn says she is most proud that she has been able to be away from home and take care of herself. She has certainly done a great job with that! Dawn makes the most of the opportunities at Richfield Residential Hall, and is involved in many things. She is looking forward to taking college courses next year as a junior. Dawn has an infectious attitude, and is always able to make her friends and the staff smile. Though she likes to play hard, Dawn also works very hard. She is a constant fixture of the High Honor Roll, and often helps others around the campus. Dawn is the daughter of Herbert and Nancy Bigman of Coppermine, Arizona. Dawn, you represent us all very well, and we are proud of you!img_0193.jpg

2007 Recruiting Trip

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Mr. Keisel and Mr. Workman just returned from the annual recruiting trip to the Western Navajo Agency. Brittney Bekay, Brittney Jim, and Merle Watchman did an outstanding job representing our student body and our program. We were fortunate to be accompanied on this trip by Mr. Hunt, Mrs. Adams, and Mr. Allen from SSHS as well as Mrs. Mackay from RHS.

The recruiting team left Richfield on Wednesday (28th) afternoon and returned on Friday (30th) evening. While on the reservation, the team presented our program to eighth grade students from Tuba City Boarding School, Tonalea Day School, Kaibeto Boarding School, Dennehotso Boarding School, and Kayenta Community School. A planned visit to Chilchinbeto Community School had to be cancelled because school was cancelled due to weather. We met many wonderful students and teachers on this trip, and would like to thank the students, teachers, and administrators of the schools that we visited for allowing us the opportunity to share our program with our future students. We are really looking forward to meeting next year’s Freshmen in the fall!
