Prom Fever!

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Junior Prom is one of those crazy, once in a lifetime experiences that most of us will never forget. I would be willing to bet that you might be surprised to see who was the first couple to show up for a prom picture in front of the backdrop designed by Abraham Isaac and Gregory Clyde.

Evander “Hot Mamma” Dutchie and Bee Jay Lee were the first to try out the new backdrop and the dresses that were being tailored for some of our girls.  Think Bee Jay can get into the military once this picture is on the internet?

Stay tuned for pictures from the real prom….

Student Council Fundraiser

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

On Saturday, March 8th, the RRH Student Council held a fundraiser to raise money for a new strobe light, disco ball, and speakers for student dances. The day was filled with fun activities and was a huge success. Students paid $3 to participate in a day of video game competitions (HALO), digital twister, great food, and topped it all of with a dance in the evening. Students also brought their guitars to provide some great music during the video game contest. See if you can find any of them in the pictures below! Click on any picture to see a larger version.

SERT

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Several Richfield Residential Hall students successfully completed the SERT (Student Emergency Response Team) course. This intense course covered emergency procedures for a myriad of natural disasters and accidents ranging from earthquakes to car accidents, and is the student version of the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Class. Students learned in a hands-on fashion many critical emergency response skills to include first aid, CPR, and evacuation procedures. Students participated in classes that were three hours long, two nights per week for three consecutive weeks. These courses were during the students valuable personal time, and their dedication to learning these valuable skills is greatly admired and appreciated by the students and staff of Richfield Residential Hall, as well as the community members involved in similar teams.

The newest members of the Sevier County SERT (Student Emergency Response Team) are: front left to right: Marlaina Yazzie, Clarenda Begaye, Trevor Benally; back left to right: Abraham Isaac, Dillon Yazzie, View Russell, Jordan Yazzie.

Congratulations on your accomplishment, we are all so proud of you, and we are also very grateful for the knowledge that you bring to our dorm family!

Moving With a Message

Friday, March 7th, 2008

The world, it seems, is full of two kinds of people: Dreamers and Doers. Occasionally, we are blessed to come across those who are both. One who dreams of the world as a better place and does something to directly to shape the outcome of that dream is a blessing to us all. The past two days, some of our students and staff have been blessed with the opportunity to meet an entire group of these people. We had the opportunity to provide a meal to the good people of the Longest Walk 2 in Salina last night. This outstanding group of people is comprised of our Native brothers and sisters who are running and walking in prayer across the United States.

The Longest Walk 2 commemorates the 30th anniversary of the 1978 Longest Walk. The Walk begun on February 11, 2008 at Alcatraz / San Francisco. Walkers and runners are traveling a North Route and a South Route, and will arrive in Washington D.C. July 11, 2008 with the following messages:

All Life is Sacred

Protect Mother Earth

Protect Sacred Sites

Plan for the Seventh Generation

It was such a humbling experience to get to meet the fine people involved in this cause. After spending the evening with some of our students, the group made a special detour from Salina to Richfield, and at 6:30 this morning some of our students and staff had the opportunity to walk two miles with this powerful and inspiring group. The walk ended on our campus in a prayer circle. It was a very inspiring experience for all involved. February Students of the Month

Friday, March 7th, 2008

We are proud to introduce and congratulate Dawn and Jarvis for being selected as Students of the Month for the month of February 2008. Both of these outstanding students radiate a positive attitude about all things. Their attitude and accomplishments exemplify all that is great about RRH.

“Hot” Dawn Bigman is a Junior at Richfield High School, and is in her third year at RRH. Dawn keeps herself busy with exercise and making her hair as big as she possibly can…the ’80’s have nothing on this girl! Dawn is a key player on RRH’s City League Volleyball team and has worked in a local restaurant where her positive attitude and strong work ethic gained her constant praise from her employers. Lost and Found….

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

In the normal course of a day, it seems there is always the stray sock that gets lost in the washer. These strays, end up in the lost and found, along with other unclaimed articles from the laundry room. In an effort to ensure that these lost articles, find their way back home, Rodney Scott, Bee Jay Lee, and Evander Dutchie held a little fashion show after study hall in hopes that someone will identify and reclaim their lost articles.

If you recognize any of the items of clothing in these pictures, go and pick them up from the lost and found in the the boys linen room. Thanks for your concern, gentlemen!

Cooking Up Some Big Awards!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Richfield Residential Hall prides itself on being a place of growth for all. Students and staff alike continually challenge themselves to be the best that they can be, and to learn from every experience. Richfield Residential Hall cook, Dorothy “Dorie” Martin exemplifies personal growth. Proving that it is never too late to learn, Dorie enrolled in Snow College’s Culinary Arts Program this fall. With no prior college experience, Dorie has carried a full course load (16 semester hours +) in addition to her duties in the kitchen. This knowledge is being shared with other members of the kitchen staff, and the new skills are proving to be an asset to the students and staff of RRH. Not one to just coast through things, Dorie has cooked up some major awards in the process.

Dorie recently earned 3rd Honors in the Culinary Arts Division of the annual Snow College Skills Olympics. Dorie also made the Dean’s List for her academic achievement! Congratulations, Dorie! You are an outstanding example to the students and staff of Richfield Residential Hall. We are so proud of all that you are doing!
