Students and Staff of Richfield Residential Hall hosted the First Annual Richfield Residential Hall Block Party on Saturday, September 27th. The purpose of this event was to get better acquainted with our neighbors and other members of our community. This successful event was attended by hundreds of family and friends in our neighborhood. We kicked off the event by serving authentic Navajo Tacos to our very grateful neighbors. Following dinner, several students participated in a talent show to entertain our guests. After the talent show, our students set up booths and games for the kids in attendance. The face painting booth was a huge hit, and no one could beat Jordan and Riva in the three-legged-race! Everyone in attendance had a great time! Just so you don’t feel left out, here are a few pictures for you to enjoy!
Even an hour after the start of the party, the line for our famous Navajo Tacos went out the door!
Friends and neighbors settle in for the RRH Talent Show.

Students of Richfield Residential Hall have access to a wide range of unique educational and vocational opportunities through Snow College while they are enrolled in our program. Dedrick Hoschain and Branden Sanderson are just two students who are taking advantage of the opportunity to learn some invaluable job skills while still in high school. They are enrolled in the Snow College building trades program, and spend the first few hours of each morning building a house here in Richfield. In this program, they receive both high school and college credit while learning a marketable skill that will allow them to get a great paying job during the summer and at any point in the future.
Branden Sanderson is a junior at Richfield High School and is the son of Harrison and Bernice Curley of Gallup, NM. Dedrick Hoschain is in junior year at South Sevier High School and is the son of Darlene Begay of Tonalea, AZ.
Students of Richfield Residential Hall are involved in a wide range of programs at Snow College, including nursing, computer education, art, welding, business, and general education.
All of the cement for our new basketball court has been poured and finished! It looks great, though it will take some getting used to top play on such a nice surface! We will paint stripes on the court in the near future, but you can bet it will get plenty of use in the meantime! Pictures of the finished project will be posted in the near future.
If you are observant, you may be wondering about the piles of ruble in the background of some of the watermania pictures. No, we have not been attacked by giant, asphalt-eating gophers. We are in the process of replacing our outdoor basketball court. We are very excited to be getting a new concrete basketball court in place of our old, worn-out asphalt court. Special thanks to Mr. Leroy Begay from the Western Navajo Agency Facilities Management Program for assisting us in funding this much needed project. We will add pictures of the progress of this project and write another post when it is completed.
What did you do on Labor Day this year? Students and staff of Richfield Residential Hall participated in our tradition of a full day of water games that we call, Watermania! We had about every kind of water-fight imaginable (from balloons to buckets). The tug-of-war over the mud pit is always a big hit, and so was the watermelon.
