May School Board Meeting
Thursday, May 28th, 2009President Watchman
Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Richfield Residential Hall student, Merle Watchman was elected as the Senior Class President at South Sevier High School for the 2009/2010 school year. In his campaign, he emphasized that he wanted to raise the bar and change stereotypes for the other Native American students. He wants his peers to know that being involved in the school and the community is important, and that it is also a lot of fun! Service is a tradition in the Watchman family. Merle’s father served our country as a tank commander in Vietnam, and recently retired as a District Court Judge. Merle is the son of Manual & Marilyn Watchman of Tuba City, Az. We are all confident that Merle will do a great job as Senior Class President next year, and that he is destined for great things in his life to follow. Congratulations Merle from the staff & students at RRH!

State Track Meet
Thursday, May 21st, 2009The 2009 Utah State High School Activities Association State Track & Field Championships were held on May 15th and 16th at the Clarence Robinson Track at Brigham Young University. The weather was gorgeous and the competition was fierce! We are so proud of the four students who represented Richfield Residential Hall at the State Championship meet. They worked so hard all year long to prepare and qualify for this event.
Shaquira Begay, daughter of Ms. Leslie Jensen of Window Rock, AZ., represented South Sevier High School in three events! She had an impressive third place finish in Women’s Shot Put, with only a half inch between her and the second place finisher! Shaquira then went on to place Fifth place in the Women’s Discus, and 14th in the Women’s Long Jump! This girl almost had to hire someone to carry home all of her bling!
Tamiya Boone, daughter of Jimmie and Patti Boone of Kayenta, also represented South Sevier High School well, finishing a respectable 7th place in the Women’s Shot Put.
Latrisha Blackstar, an impressive new addition to the Richfield High School Girl’s Track Team, was instrumental in propelling the Lady Wildcats to a Third Place Finish in the Women’s Medley Relay. Latrisha also placed 7th in the Women’s 1600 meter finals with her best time of the year at 5:45.16! Latrisha also placed 3rd in the Women’s 3200 meter finals with a smokin time of 12:23.81! With speed and endurance like that, her parents, Tommy and Lorraine Allen of Page, AZ. don’t have to worry too much about the boys being able to chase her down!
Senior, Alton Chee helped Richfield High School Boy’s Track and Field Team secure another State Championship! This makes the 5th championship for the Wildcats in the past 7 years!

Read a great article about the Wildcat’s domination at State in the Richfield Reaper. Alton finished 12th in the 3200 meter finals with a time of 10:51.21. Alton is the son of Richard and Joann Chee of Hite, Utah. He plans on continuing his distance running career for Dine College next year.
Congratulations to all of our athletes! You all represented our program and your individual schools well at the State Meet. Your hard work is a reflection of what great students you are in all respects. Keep up the great work on the field and in the classroom!
Just Say No!!!
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009Parents:
As you may know, the principals of both high schools have made a special arrangement with us to allow our students to leave school a full two days earlier than the rest of the student body. While the last day of school is the 29th of May, our students will be released at 1:00 pm on the 27th. We are grateful to the administration of both high schools for this thoughtful consideration of our students’ unique needs.
For your student’s own good, please do not allow them to leave school any earlier than the 27th. This will adversely affect the grades that they have worked so hard towards all year long. I know our students well enough to know that they are going to argue a strong case that will make your little heart go pitter-patter, your eyes steam up, and give you a strong desire to give in to their unhealthy desire. I am asking you to be strong and do the Nancy Reagan….. “JUST SAY NO!!!” Richfield Residential Hall will not be signing any withdrawal forms prior to the 27th. Thank you for your support in this critical manner.
–Mr. Workman
