Jazz it Up!

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

The first quarter High Honor Roll students (3.50 GPA & higher) traveled to Salt Lake City on Monday, February 22nd, to shop at the Gateway Plaza and attend a Utah Jazz game! The game was exciting, although the Jazz were defeated by the Atlanta Hawks in the last few minutes of the game! If you were watching the game, you might have seen some of our girls on T.V. They waited patiently by the commentators booth for the cameras to scan the crowd and finally received their minute of television fame. With that accomplished, they anxiously awaited their picture taking opportunity with Thurl Bailey. Thurl is a retired Jazz player and is now a broadcast analyst for the Utah Jazz and the University of Utah. He is also a singer, song writer, and motivational speaker. The girls had an awesome time!

South Sevier Writing Contest Winner

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Terrilyn Crank, a junior at South Sevier High School, placed 2nd in a writing contest at her school. The theme was: “My greatest love is……”.

My Greatest Love is…..Beloved God: Because you can pray to him and, in a way, he will try to help you and teach you the right path. This poem I called:
My Prayer
Dear God, as I began this day,
Let me thank you, in my own special way,
You have blessed me
From the start and started working your way
Through all my life
God, where would I ever be?
Without you?
I took the good and the bad
You have sent my way,
All the good and the bad times
Made me what I am today
I am trying to do my best
With all you have sent my way,
And I hope dear God, that you are pleased
With me today.
I am actually learning from my mistakes and retracing
Them with new ones and following my dreams.

Brian Head Snow Boarding Trip

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

On Monday, February 15th, the Honor Roll students traveled to Brian Head Ski Resort for a day of snow boarding. Mark Laws, said about the trip, “The trip was a success! When we arrived, the director was gathering students to start fitting them for boots and snow boards. Before we knew it, the students were gathered up and off to lessons from the instructor. The kids were a little bit hesitant at first, but, as soon as, they were shown the basics, they went right up the hill. The first trip was pretty hard for them, but they continued to go right back up the hill & hit it again. Our kids had a BLAST! They are an awesome group of kids and they were very grateful for this activity. It was awesome to see a real smile on all their faces.”

After a day of snow boarding, the students ate dinner at Wingers in Richfield!

The following students & staff participated: Nanabah Bizahaloni, Warren Brown, Dennisha Bradley, Ashley Clyde, Dedrick Hoschain, Holly Johnson, Shane Sanderson, Lucy Slick, Serida Slim, Fabeian Toledo, Ouida Taylor (staff), and Mark Laws (staff).
