Continuing the Tradition of Excellence

Friday, April 30th, 2010

The Richfield Residential Hall Governing Board and Administration went before the Eduction Committee of the Navajo Nation Council on Wednesday, April 28th 2008 to conclude a year-long project by requesting reauthorization of the tribal grant that funds the operation of our program. The Honorable Jonathan Nez, Council Delegate from Shonto, sponsored the legislation to reauthorize Richfield Residential Hall for another three years of operation.

The Education Committee and several other important tribal officials had many positive things to say about Richfield Residential Hall and the unique opportunities that we offer our students each year. RRH was called a “superior program” in this process, which resulted in the successful reauthorization of our program for another three years. It should be pointed out that only the best programs are reauthorized for three years at a time. Many programs must go through this process on an annual basis.

Special thanks to the Richfield Residential Hall Governing Board, the Honorable Jonathan Nez, the Education Committee of the Navajo Nation Council, Office of Monitoring, Evaluation and Technical Assistance and the RRH Administration for working so hard to ensure that we are able to continue to offer the best academic and social opportunities to our students for many years to come.

Message from the President

Monday, April 26th, 2010

From the pen of RRH studentbody President LeCallin Cly:
“Our Mutton Fry was so much fun! We all learned from the staff and visiting community members how to properly butcher a sheep. Everyone helped with the butchering, some kids cut up the meat, and others set up for the dinner. We had Community people that helped us and Title VII people and we thank them, we could have never done it without their help. They helped butcher, helped the kitchen ladies with sorting the meat and cooking. By the end of the day, everything was all done, the food was delicious, it was like one big happy family, and Cheii Forrest Adison did the prayer for us to be blessed, protected, and learn harder, and go all the way with our education!”

Monday, April 26th, 2010

On April 22nd Mr. Workman and Mrs. Nielson visited Tuba City Boarding School (TCBS) and Navajo Mountain Community School . It was reported that the eighth grade class at TCBS had outstanding test scores and the teachers bragged about what a great bunch of students they had this school year! At Navajo Mountain they were busy cleaning up their campus as part of Earth Day activities and enjoyed a Ice Cream Social after the clean up. Also, for lunch we enjoyed great Navajo Tacos made by the dorm staff. We thank the teachers and dorm staff at both schools for hosting our presentation!

Campus Clean Up

Chalk Drawing

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Students enjoyed an afternoon in the sun chalk drawing on the basketball court! Old Man Winter hasn’t gone to sleep, so when the weather is nice, we like to get the kids outside. The original plan on the day of the event was to play an old fashion game of hopscotch….but, many students said they had no clue what hopscotch was…..REALLY? We are hoping for many nice days ahead and more fun in the sun!

BIG No Drug or Alcohol Reward Activity

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

April 10th….our big activity (second one for the year) started off by having a studentbody meeting to remind students about appropriate behavior while at the bowling lanes. Then, the students were transported to the bowling alley. We had 73 students who qualified to participate. The students bowled and/or played arcade games. Students were then served Pizza Hut pizza and soda. Because the movie theater downtown is closed, the students watched a movie on a big screen TV at the dorm. Later, snacks were served. We always receive compliments on student behavior from the community when we do this activity. We are proud of them and they represent their parents and families well. They all seemed to have a good time!
