Richfield High School ended their year with a band and choir concert. Participating in the choir were Fayette Clitso, freshmen, daughter of Kee & Sharon Clitso, Kayenta; Jeridena Russell, sophomore, daughter of Jerry Russell & Bessie Cody, Kayenta; LaShanda Dutchie, sophomore, daughter of Rodell & Priscilla Dutchie, Dennehotso; and Shane Sanderson, sophomore, son of Harrison & Bernice Sanderson, Gallup. Not pictured: Ariana Mego, freshmen, son of Earl Benally & LaVerne Mego, Kaibeto.

Richfield High Track Awards

Latrisha with her coaches Bryan Griffin & Curtis Benjamin

Latrisha Blackstar, a senior, was given an Athletic Letter for her participation on the Richfield High School track team on May 18th. She has been a valuable asset to the cross country and track team for the past two years. Latrisha first started running in the 3rd grade and since that time, has won over 100 medals & trophies! After graduation, she would like to attend the University of Oklahoma (OU) and run for the Sooners! Good luck Latrisha! Latrisha is the daugther Tommy & Lorraine Allen of Page.



Elementary School Performance

Thanks to our Crown Dancers for performing at the Pahvant Elementary school in Richfield. All year they have done a fantastic job entertaining people in our community….young and old! Our Crown Dancers are: DeVonte Charlie, Fabeian Toledo, Kerwin Chee, Channon Yazzie, Tyrone Nez, Alex Ketchum, and Sheldon Jackson. A special thanks to Ouida Taylor, staff, for helping the boys with their performances!

Academic Honors

May 17th, 2010


Receiving academic honors at Richfield High School were Dennisha Bradley, a senior, and Ariana Mego, a freshmen. Dennisha received outstanding honors in English and in the high school division at the Snow College Skills Olypmics she placed 2nd in Mechanical Drawing and placed 3rd in Drawing. She is the daughter of Sherri Bradley of Kayenta. Ariana Mego received a certificate of recognition & outstanding achievement in Algebra I. She is the daugther of Earl Benally & LaVerne Mego, Leupp.


Receiving recognition at South Sevier High School was Brittney Etsitty a sophomore. She placed 3rd in Region Drama for Classical Scenes and was a part of the Region Drama championship group. At state she received straight superior ratings on a play and one scene. Brittney was very active in the drama club throughout the year. She is the daughter of Bobby & Daphne Etsitty of St. Michaels. Lucy Slick, a sophomore at Richfield High school, received outstanding honors in Algebra II and Biology. She is the daughter of George & Lucinda Slick of Shonto.



Outstanding Female Field Athlete

May 17th, 2010


You could say Shaquira is an all-around athelete and student at South Sevier High School. She’s involved in volleyball, basketball, and track. Also, she found time to participate in the Miss Future Farmer’s of America pageant, placing 2nd, she sang a Navajo birthday song in the Native Week assembly, she participated in the choir, and she’s a talented cello player.

Shaquira’s latest accomplishments were in track! At Region she placed 2nd in the high jump. At the BYU Invitational, she placed 2nd in the discus (throwing 100′ 8″), 5th in the shot put, 5th in the high jump, and received the Outstanding Female Field Athlete 1A-2A DivisionAward. Shaquira is a junior at South Sevier High School and plans to become a pediatrician. She is the daugther of Leslie Jensen of Window Rock



“Hoovers not Hooters”

May 17th, 2010

Thursday night the student council drove out to Big Rock Candy Mountain for dinner at “Hoovers Cafe”. “The food at Hoover’s was humongous and I actually beat LeCallin in a race to see who could eat half of their “Extreme Hoover’s Hamburger….I won by two bites!” said Lucy Slick. And, Markita Manygoats says, “Dinner was delicious…. wasn’t able to finish…..I highly recommend the steaks….small, but satisfying!” If you ever pass through, Big Rock Canyon Mountain look for Hoover’s Cafe!

South Sevier Senior Banquet

May 17th, 2010

Each year the South Sevier High School (SSHS) Booster Club prepares a delicious dinner for all the seniors and this year’s dinner was held on Wednesday, May 12th. While enjoying a fine dinner, the seniors had the opportunity to spend time with their fellow classmates and then enjoyed watching the senior class DVD, which was put together by senior class president Merle Watchman. Manual & Marilyn Watchman, Merle’s parents, attended the banquet with their son.
