Moving With a Message

The world, it seems, is full of two kinds of people: Dreamers and Doers. Occasionally, we are blessed to come across those who are both. One who dreams of the world as a better place and does something to directly to shape the outcome of that dream is a blessing to us all. The past two days, some of our students and staff have been blessed with the opportunity to meet an entire group of these people. We had the opportunity to provide a meal to the good people of the Longest Walk 2 in Salina last night. This outstanding group of people is comprised of our Native brothers and sisters who are running and walking in prayer across the United States.

The Longest Walk 2 commemorates the 30th anniversary of the 1978 Longest Walk. The Walk begun on February 11, 2008 at Alcatraz / San Francisco. Walkers and runners are traveling a North Route and a South Route, and will arrive in Washington D.C. July 11, 2008 with the following messages:

All Life is Sacred

Protect Mother Earth

Protect Sacred Sites

Plan for the Seventh Generation

It was such a humbling experience to get to meet the fine people involved in this cause. After spending the evening with some of our students, the group made a special detour from Salina to Richfield, and at 6:30 this morning some of our students and staff had the opportunity to walk two miles with this powerful and inspiring group. The walk ended on our campus in a prayer circle. It was a very inspiring experience for all involved.
